Handling Specialty custom engineered and manufactured a rotator that was used in an automotive laboratory wind testing system, where different car models were driven onto the rotator / turntable and then turned to face the wind tunnel while various tests were being conducted.
Critical to the solution was that the rotator did not move when subject to the different environments imposed on it during testing, so as not to affect results. The top of the rotator was manufactured in two pieces to fit the client’s existing facility layout.
- Turntable with 10,000 lb capacity, mechanical actuation, 177” diameter
- Positions vehicle accurately
- Large industrial slewing ring with an internal rack
- Interface ready with a servo-motor to the main system and built-in x-ray machine controls
Handling Specialty’s turntables are very dependable and rugged machines requiring minimum maintenance. Turntables are available with an assortment of standard and optional accessories to suit each customer’s needs. Handling Specialty turntables are designed for rotary positioning of equipment and materials in a wide variety of industrial settings. The instructions set forth in this manual are not necessarily all-inclusive, as Handling Specialty cannot anticipate all conceivable or unique situations. Two types of actuation are used to power Handling Specialty turntables. The first uses an electric motor to drive the turn table through the gear on the center mounted slewing ring. The second type uses an hydraulic power unit to supply oil to a hydraulic motor which drives the slewing ring.
